How to Install a Dishwasher
A good way to make your dishwasher blend in with the rest of your kitchen is to contact your cabinet company and purchase a cabinet front cut to size for the dishwasher.

By installing your own dishwasher you'll not only save money, but you'll be able to troubleshoot problems that may arise. There are many different units available , so refer to your instruction manual when installing. Let's get started.
If you are replacing an old dishwasher, the installation is not that difficult . If it's a new one, the first thing you have to consider is the placement. You may have to remove a cabinet or two if you want the dishwasher beside your sink.
* To install a new dishwasher, you need an electrical hookup and access to a water supply line and drain.
Securing the Dishwasher
Most dishwashers are the same, and one concern when the machine is loaded is that it could tip, so they are secured with anti-tip brackets at the top (figure A). Run a screw underneath and into the underside of the countertop.
* It's important to make sure the dishwasher is level when you install it. The best way to check is to open the dishwasher door and place a leveler on the bottom rack. Then secure the anti-tip brackets.
Waterline Connections
There are only three areas to worry about connecting:
- Water Supply Line - Next to the water inlet valve is the connection for the water supply line (figure B). As with most plumbing connections, get them hand-tight first and then take a pair of pliers and make it tighter.
- Discharge Hose - If the water goes in, it must have a place to come out - and this is called the discharge hose (figure C). Fit the hose over the discharge valve and secure it with the clamp provided by the manufacturer (figure D).
- Electrical Connection - Be sure to turn off the main power source, and then run the wires through the electrical box on the dishwasher. Connect the ground wire first and then the neutral (white to white) wires and do the same with the positive (black to black) wires (figure E).
Finishing the Job
Now that the water supply line and discharge hose are connected on the inside of the dishwasher, it's time to connect them on the outside. The water supply line connects to the water inlet valve (figure F) and the discharge hose to the garbage disposal (figure G).
